Weather: Cloudy, sunny in parts, mild wind, cold feel.
Section 1: 1st – Paul Postin 11.06 Kg, 2nd – Bob Baker 5.93Kg, 3rd – Andy Wood 4.25Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 22.64Kg, 2nd – Peter Hawthorne 10.55 Kg, 3rd – Richard Lowe 6.53Kg.
This time last year, part of the pool was frozen and bitterly cold wind hampered most anglers and a few dry nets left a few people wondering why? A year on and things were a little better, everyone caught and a couple of respectable weights came out of a pool that not a lot of people fancied.
19 members and one guest attended the season opener at Top Pool on Tunnel Barn Farm.
Although everyone caught it was still a very hard going match. Section winners Paul and Mark started well and both continued steadily catching throughout the whole 5 hours. Long pole with either pellet or maggot started well for most anglers with a few fish caught closer in as the match drew to a close.
The bowl of the pool saw the slightly larger fish come out with a greater volume down either side of the main stretch. Quite a variety was caught, not to restricted to the F1's as expected. With commons, mirrors, crucians, roach, rudd, bream and Perch all coming out.
House Pool will be hosting us later in the Season when hopefully even better weather will bring out larger weights for all anglers.
Cob House, Wyatts Pool is our next venue. With the weights that have been coming out of there over the last few weeks it could be a chance for every angler to get a good weight in their nets. We'll all know in 3 weeks.

Weather: Cloudy/overcast, mild wind, cold feel getting slightly warmer throughout the day.
Section 1: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 37.61 Kg, 2nd – Simon Evans 30.01Kg, 3rd – Bob Baker 27.86Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Keith Painter 21.66Kg, 2nd – Craig Cash 17.89Kg, 3rd – Paul Richards 17.53Kg.
After a great week weather wise the weekend (as so many before) was greeted with a whimper. A cold and overcast morning was only brightened when a couple of nameless members arrived late after not putting the clocks forward, but 18 members did manage to fish.
Wyatt's is a predominantly pole pool with only a couple opting for a chuck on the feeder. Maggot and corn caught well but it was pellet that saw the most action. Section 1 saw the heavy bags of fish with Mark Hawthorne continuing where he had left off at Tunnel Barn Farm and came away with the biggest weight closely followed by Simon Evans and Cob House resident Bob Baker.
Section 2 was slightly harder going but good weights still came out. Keith Painter picked up his first section win with a constant and solid performance out at 11 metres. Craig cash came in second only just in front of Paul Richards who recorded a personal best at 17.53 Kg. A good weight of fish was caught by all anglers, Packington Sommers is next up and chance to get the rods out properly for the first time this year!

Weather: Sunny and warm, very occasional cloud in the sky.
Section 1: 1st – Simon Evans 16.4 Kg, 2nd – Paul Postin 13.9 Kg, 3rd – Bob Baker 12.9 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 20.6 Kg, 2nd – Pete Hawthorne 8.14 Kg, 3rd – Richard Lowe 7.85 Kg.
Best days fishing so far this season (well from the weather point of view) saw 18 members and 1 guest fish Packington Somers biggest pool, Molands Mere. With each peg having the main island 25 metres away, most members dusted off their rods to reach it. A variety of methods caught with midwater pole and casting to the island picking up good weights.
Section 1 saw Simon Evans pick up his first section win of the season with an aggresive attack (with bait) pulling in 16.4 Kg's closely followed by Paul and Bob in second and third respectively. A small margin was in contrast to section 2 which saw Mark run away with his third section win of the season (and maximum points taker also) with a bigger gap to Pete and Rich than in section 1.
Manor farm and Boundary Pool will play host at the start of next month.

Weather: Very windy, overcast throughout the day, occasional shower.
Section 1: 1st – Phill Locke 16.23 Kg, 2nd – Richard Lowe 15.5 Kg, 3rd – Mark Hawthorne 15.28 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Chris Lowe 21.26 Kg, 2nd – Simon Evans 20.25 Kg, 3rd – Bob Baker 12.17 Kg.
Difficult conditions reminded 19 members and 1 guest that they were fishing in Britain after a number of weeks of excellent and unseasonably good weather. A strong wind from start to finish hampered a lot of the best-laid plans as well as damaging equipment and blowing accessories around the pool. The pool is known for being particularly successful with the pellet wagler, however the strength of the wind made this impossible for most.
With no main features to fish to many anglers opted for going long with feeders and pole to get into the middle and deeper water. Pellet and maggot caught the bigger weights but with very few bait bans many members tried a number of tactics. Some saw joy closer in as the match drew to a close maybe due to it being too difficult to hold the pole out long anymore.
Better weights were seen across the far end of the pool with 4 of the 6 to take home an envelope being drawn there. Phill Locke and Chris Lowe picked up both their fist brown envelope and section wins of the year. Along with the regular faces now of Mark Hawthorne, Bob Baker, Richard Lowe and Simon Evans also taking home some winnings. If this had been a silvers match however, Tony Smith would have won hands down with a large haul of Perch making Tony quite possibly the busiest angler of the day.
Larford Lakes Match Pool plays host later in the month, all anglers will be hoping for more sun and less wind over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Weather: Very windy, overcast throughout the day.
Section 1: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 20.01 Kg, 2nd – Paul Postin 19.53 Kg, 3rd – Matt Dutton 16.7 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Bob Baker 25.89 Kg, 2nd – Chris Lowe 19.08 Kg, 3rd – Richard Lowe 17.74 Kg.
Another day of very difficult and windy conditions ensured that weights were not as high as they could have been.
Conditions varied between the 17 members and 2 guests. The higher the number peg, the closer to the island and the less the wind impacted on the conditions. Bob Baker took his first maximum points of the season with a respectable 25.89Kg in section 2. The island just giving Bob enough protection to keep on the pole.
The majority of fish were caught either in very close on the pole or in the margins with great success also out long on the feeder.
Bob’s maximum points also meant extra pressure on league leader Mark Hawthorne who came in with 20.01Kg to take section 1 and 19 points in total. Second in section 1 was Paul Postin, who with a bad back only missed out on winning section 1 by 52g.
Second and third in section 2 were taken by Chris & Richard Lowe who worked the rods out long to keep on top of the conditions.
Next up is the second visit to Tunnel Barn Farm where the House Pool plays host. With better weather promised, there is a good chance of a different match altogether.
Weather: Mainly overcast, occasional sunny spells.
Section 1: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 34.33 Kg, 2nd – Mark Farley 21.25 Kg, 3rd – Peter Hawthorne 19.70 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Bob Baker 40.49 Kg, 2nd – Paul Postin 37.68 Kg, 3rd – Mark Newton 22.78 Kg.
With all 34 pegs to choose from, 16 members and 2 guests fished the fair conditions on offer at Tunnel Barn Farm’s House Pool. Every peg had a number of features to fish to on this well established pool with mainly carp making up the bulk of the weight. More silvers and barbell were seen further towards the back of the main island.
Bob Baker followed up his first section and overall win at Larford, with exactly the same at Tunnel Barn. The rest of Section 2 saw Paul Postin close in second with 37.68 Kg and guest Mark Newton in 3rd with 22.78 Kg.
Section 1 saw league leader Mark Hawthorne follow up with another strong performance weighing in with 34.33Kg, second was another guest Mark Farley with 21.25 Kg and third saw Peter Hawthorne gain 16 points in the league with a weight of 19.70Kg.
Next up is another one for the rods with a trip to Earlswood and the Engine pool at the start of July.
Weather: Bright sunshine, warm day and gentle constant wind.
Section 1: 1st – Bob Baker 22.95 Kg, 2nd – Martin Darby 8.73 Kg, 3rd – Paul Postin 7.15 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 12.28 Kg, 2nd – Phill Locke 10.49 Kg, 3rd – Daryl Hawthorne 10.33 Kg.
Earlswood Lakes gave all 16 members and 4 guests quite possibly the hardest challenge yet this season. The lake is more commonly known as a specimen or carping lake but does hold matches regularly.
With the driest spring since the turn of the century, most anglers were wading in to get a better position to fish from. In some cases fishing as much a s15 metres from the pegs. Because of the sheer size of the lake, and the shallowness under foot, all anglers went with rods of various forms. A carp or specimen rod would not have been out of place for this one. Bait varied across the spectrum with pellets and corn making up the big weights.
One member (who shall remain nameless), took full advantage of the shallow end and went for a little dip to cool down in the hot conditions.
Bob Baker put in another solid performance that saw him take both the section and maximum points for the league table. The rest of section 1 saw guest Martin Darby crown his debut with a brown envelope in second. Along with another stalwart in the envelopes this season Paul Postin in third.
Section 2 saw league leader Mark Hawthorne keep the top of the table as tight as it could possibly be with another first place. Phill Locke came in second with another solid performance and a nice couple of fish closely followed by Mark's brother and guest Daryl.
Next up gives the pole fisherman a chance with a canal style layout on Makins fishery in two weeks.
Weather: Started cloudy with temperatures slightly dipping over night. Warm and sunny throughout the whole match.
Section 1: 1st – Ian Holt 14.20 Kg, 2nd – John Jones 10.20 Kg, 3rd – Bob Baker 7.54 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Scott Lloyd 24.75 Kg, 2nd – Richard Lowe 11.82 Kg, 3rd – Paul Postin 5.90 Kg.
With holiday season upon us, 13 members and 7 guests turned out at one of the top fisheries in the country. Makins has a big reputation for good match weights and some monster fish. Sadly the club curse rolled into town and saw the smallest (and most disappointing) collective weight of the season so far. The conditions were near perfect, the venue looked picturesque and spirits were high. Within 30 minutes of the whistle opinions had changed somewhat.
With 5 people not weighing in anything and only 4 breaking into double figures a hard fought day was seen by all. Congratulations however to Ian Holt who battled through the difficult fishing to net his biggest net of the Season with 14.20 Kg and his first full points for the season. Guest and friend of the club John Jones came in second with a respectable 10.20 Kg. Next door to Ian saw league challenger Bob Baker push through to the top of the pile with 7.54 Kg from the far margin on the pole.
Section 2 was split between the inner and outer Avon pegs. With a large number of the DNW's coming from the outer section it is no surprise that all 3 money places went to anglers on the inner. Guest Scott Lloyd had a nice weight of 24.75 Kg to take home the top prize, followed by neighbouring peg Richard Lowe with 11.82 Kg. Paul Postin took home the final prize packet with a weight of 5.90 Kg.
Next up is the second visit of the season to the Packington Somers Estate and Little Gearys.
Weather: Predominantly cloudy with the odd sunny burst, gentle wind most of the day.
Section 1: 1st – Bob Baker 34.49 Kg, 2nd – Paul Postin 22.72 Kg, 3rd – Matt Southall 22.28 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Simon Evans 20.91 Kg, 2nd – Kevin Bradley 12.71 Kg, 3rd – Ian Holt 8.20 Kg.
A return to form for most members saw a better day of fishing by all. The picturesque setting of Little Gearys on the Packington Somers Estate gave 18 members and 2 guests a feature to fish to. Better weights were seen towards the top end of the pool in Section one but some solid performance towards the other end, most noticeably Simon Evans, saw a pretty even spread around the whole pool.
Section 1 was again dominated by league leader Bob Baker taking home the biggest brown envelope with a very respectable 34.49 Kgs. Second and third went right to the wire with neighbours Paul and Matt scrapping it out from the all in. Paul just came out on top this time weighing in under a kilo over Matt with 22.72 Kg and 22.28 Kg respectively.
Section 2 was a slightly different story with the weights not quite as good. 20.91 Kg was enough to take Simon past the early league leader Mark Hawthorne and keep on the coat tails of the first and second. Another neighbouring pair in Kevin and Ian battled out for the remaining two brown envelopes with Kevin coming out on top with 12.71 Kg and Ian with 8.20 Kg.
Next round will be played out at Woodland View on the Ghost pool, a former club record pool, fingers crossed for another solid performance and maybe a chance to beat the current record.
Weather: Overcast with a very few spots of rain. Wind blowing for most of the day and the odd rays of sunshine.
Section 1: 1st – Martin Darby 27.49 Kg, 2nd – Grant Price 24.66 Kg, 3rd – Kevin Bradley 20.86 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 34.24 Kg, 2nd – Bob Baker 30.06 Kg, 3rd – Paul Postin 25.18 Kg.
With 1 angler calling in sick, 19 anglers gathered on the bank for the anticipated match ahead. Although some started on the pole a few opted for the feeder to the middle of the pool. Corner pegs played a major part in this match with 3 out of the 6 brown envelopes coming from such pegs.
Section 1 saw guests anglers Martin Darby and Grant Price taking full advantage of the corners and Kevin Bradley being quite central to take some big fish close to doubles if not just over.
Section 2 saw the league leaders battling it out with Mark Hawthorne again on a corner peg coming out on top and Bob Baker who was central coming in a close 2nd, Paul Postin polished off another strong performance to keep him fighting for the title on the last but 1 peg coming in 3rd.
Maggots were the margin bait on the day with a number of anglers saying afterwards that is all they could get a bite on. Whilst some of the weights were not as prolific as we anticipated it has all helped to the tension of the league being contested all the way to the end.
Larford Lakes Arena is where the next round will be fought out, the nights are getting a little darker and mornings a little colder. What effect this will have on the league table only time will tell.
Weather: Overcast with a very few spots of rain. Wind blowing for most of the day and the odd rays of sunshine.
Section 1: 1st – Bob Baker 12.57 Kg, 2nd – Kevin Bradley 11.08 Kg, 3rd – Chris Lowe 7.63 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Paul Postin 17.95 Kg, 2nd – Tony Smith 8.49 Kg, 3rd – Pete Hawthorn 6.67 Kg.
A last minute move of bank saw 16 members and 1 guest luckily get the better bank. Originally booked for the deep Burr bank, a more protected Grass bank protected us from the elements. With no feeders allowed on the Arena lake, conditions in front of the Grass bank were good for pole or waggler. Pole saw the bigger weights with little success coming from the margins in general.
Section 1 saw league leader Bob Baker continue his dominance with a respectable 12.57 Kg mainly taken with maggot on the deck. Kevin Bradley put in another solid performance with 11.08 Kg to keep the pressure on the top 5. The final prize money pay out in section 1 went to Chris Lowe with 7.63 Kg.
Section 2 had Paul Postin on top again with 17.95Kg to ensure that the league title goes right down to the wire. Second saw Tony Smith grab his first second place of the season so far with 8.49 Kg. Peter Hawthorne came in third with 6.67 Kg.
Next up see's the club return to Solhampton for the first time this year. Any chance of breaking the club record?
Weather: Overcast for the most part, heavy showers through the middle part of the day.
Section 1: 1st – Mark Hawthorne 38.5 Kg, 2nd – Phill Locke 31.8 Kg, 3rd – Peter Hawthorne 14.8 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Paul Postin 29.9 Kg, 2nd – Joe Bunting 18.8 Kg, 3rd – Craig Cash 17.3 Kg.
Another picturesque pool at Solhampton saw 17 members and 2 guests fish the penultimate match of the season. With the league still very tight, a lot could've been decided today. The pool was almost rectangular in shape and for the most part shallow (the water level appeared to be down quite a way at the entrance to the pool).
Section 1 winner Mark Hawthorne put in a very solid performance on the pole to keep the challenge for the top position going until the last match. Mark weighed in an impressive 38.5 Kg. Second place Phill Locke took yet another prize envelope with an almost under the radar performance that saw some nice big fish in the keep net. The last prize packet went to the Solhampton/ club record holder Peter Hawthorne with 14.8Kg.
Current league leader Bob Baker had a torrid time and for the first time this season finished outside the money. Section 2 winner Paul Postin took full advantage to close the gap on Bob to just 2 points (before deductions). Paul weighed in with 29.9 Kg followed by Joe Bunting in second with 18.8 Kg. Third place in section 2 went to club chairman Craig Cash with 17.3 Kg for his second prize packet of the season.
The last match of the season see's a fight to the death (metaphorically of course) at Manor Farm on the Windmill Pool. Weather conditions play a big part on the performance of this pool and will have a say on who takes home the biggest prize in 2011.
Weather: Cold start to the day, sunny and warm on the side of the pool it shone on, whilst the other side was chillier in the shade. a light breeze on few occasions gave very good fishing conditions.
Section 1: 1st – Richard Lowe 24.41 Kg, 2nd – Bob Baker 23.11 Kg, 3rd – Mark Hawthorne 16.54 Kg.
Section 2: 1st – Paul Postin 29.81 Kg, 2nd – Craig Cash 18.71 Kg, 3rd – Peter Hawthorne 16.73 Kg.
Match report to follow shortly!
